Every KTM EXC leaves the factory with injection-moulded ABS plastic panels. They work — but they are a compromise. Plastic is cheap to produce at volume, but for a rider who actually pushes their machine, it has real limitations. Weight

Carbon fiber wins decisively here. A carbon headlight mask typically weighs 120–180 g versus 280–380 g for the equivalent ABS part. On an enduro bike where every gram in unsprung and rotating mass costs you energy and handling precision, that is meaningful.

Stiffness and Heat Stability

Aerospace prepreg carbon fiber is significantly stiffer than ABS at the same wall thickness, yet absorbs micro-vibrations better thanks to its fibre structure. Parts made from prepreg carbon maintain their shape at high temperatures — important if you park a hot bike in direct sun — whereas ABS can warp slightly over years of use.

Impact Resistance

Carbon fiber has a reputation for being brittle, but that reputation belongs to poorly-made carbon.
